Soak in Some Salty Goodness

Hey Friends! Let's take a bath! I mean a goooooood one. One of those "pour me a glass of wine and soak off the stress" kind of baths. I don't know about you, but in recent years, I have really come to appreciate and enjoy a good long soak. Perhaps it is because my body has begun to remind me that I'm no longer 29 (or even 39... ugh... I'm so close to 49! Eek.), or maybe I have just learned that self care and "me time" is important for my body, mind, and soul.


I used to really struggle with this. Taking time for me felt selfish and honestly, I didn't feel like I had time for it. However, the older (and wiser) I become, I am realizing I need to take care of me so that I can better love on and take care of others. Fortunately, I have a hubby who really encourages this. But, even though I know it makes a HUGE difference, I still often struggle slowing down enough to just do it.

I am learning to and working on making self-care a bigger priority in my life. Honestly, why do we fight it so much? Do we somehow feel self-righteous when we are "too busy" or only make time for others and not ourselves? I've had to have this conversation with myself. And what I'm learning is that I'm often timid about being alone with me. I don't always like what I find in those quiet times. BUT, when I invite God into those moments with me, it's so much better. I allow Him to speak louder than the self-doubt in my head... and He always speaks life into me... reminding me who I am.


I am a daughter of the King. I am special. And so are you! So, take time to take care of you. Take some quiet time to allow Him to renew your body and mind. Go take a bath! :)

When going for a soak, many of you may opt to toss a bath bomb in the tub and call it good, but since I have become more cognizant of all the toxins and chemicals in most over the counter "beauty products", I have stopped buying the crap and starting making some indulgent bath salts of my own. Besides being better for my overall health and wellness, OhMyGoodness, these bath salts are wayyyy better than anything I used to buy.


If you are anything like me... a DIY, budget-conscious, essential oil lovin' girl... this is a super simple treat you can make for yourself. I started with a giant glass jar that has a good sealing lid that I found at Walmart. (Glass is a must for use with essential oils.) I bought the bamboo spoons, which are the perfect size to fit in the jar, on Amazon.

Instead of just using regular Epsom salt, I researched what else would be a good combination for skin as well as joint and muscle relief. I have some skin issues (psoriasis) and wanted my bath time to soothe me on the surface as well as the core of my body and mind. Here's what I came up with... Dead Sea Salt, Pink Himalayan Crystal Salt, Epsom Salt, and Magnesium Flakes. This combination offers compelling comfort from head to toe! I purchased all of these on Amazon.



I mixed equal amounts of each of these in a large bowl (2 cups of each) as well as 1/2 cup of baking soda. Next, I added the awesome sauce! YES! Essential oils! I put about 30 drops of each oil in my concoction. But, this part is totally up to you. The blend you choose should suit your specific needs. Here's some different essential oils to look into using for various needs.


Relaxation - Some good choices are Peace & Calming, Lavender, Stress Away, Valor, White Angelica and Roman Chamomile.

Uplift/Invigorate - Try En-R-Gee, Orange, Peppermint, Jade Lemon, Lemon Myrtle, Grapefruit and Joy.

Body Aches - My go-to is Panaway, Deep Relief, Copaiba, Cypress, Peppermint, Marjoram, Balsam Fir, and Vetiver.

Skin Issues - Use Frankincense, Patchouli, Lavender, Myrrh, German Chamomile, Melrose, Helichrysum, and Geranium.

Respiratory Care - I like Eucalyptus Globulus, Spearmint, Eucalyptus Radiata, Ravintsara, Peppermint, Balsam Fir, Lavender, Cedarwood, and Frankincense.



There's definitely soooo many more oils you could try that help with so many things... just do a little experimentation and investigation. These plant juices are truly AWESOME, but make sure you are getting the good stuff. Hey, did you know the bible actually has some things to say about taking care of yourself? Yup. Because God is a compassionate God, He wants you to your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Even Jesus made sure to pull away from the busyness of life.


"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." Mark 1:35

A huge part of taking care of ourselves is taking care of our hearts and minds... filling them with things that are pure and good. This is one of my fave verses for sure!


"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. " Philippians 4:8

Ultimately, I believe, during our moments of relaxing, recharging and/or renewal, He wants to draw us closer to Him. And ultimately, He is our source of healing, hope and help for our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual being.
